Purpose / Job Summary:

The position involves system administration of the Attachmate Group’s (TAG) global Messaging and Collaboration environment. Working in a small team of administrators, this role will report directly to the IT Infrastructure Applications Manager. With a focus on the Email function, the individual will provide systems support and escalated customer support for a number of the following services and products:

  • Email
  • Anti-Spam Solution
  • Mobile Device Integration
  • Collaboration Platform
  • Mailing List Server
  • Primary-Novell GroupWise, Secondary-Microsoft Exchange
  • GWAVA, Mail Marshall
  • Novell Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack, Blackberry Enterprise Server for GroupWise
  • Novell Vibe
  • GNU Mailman, L-Soft LISTSERV

The person holding this position should have a good understanding of communication standards and messaging systems to be able to support and troubleshoot issues in interaction with external systems.

Work with other team members, internal developers and external companies to provide stable production services and to ensure seamless escalation of incidents relating to Messaging and Collaboration services.

Work with TAG’s Engineering groups for escalation of product defects, support the Engineering group’s product release cycles by running limited adoption pilots of future TAG products in production environments (“Customer #1” early adoption program).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ongoing monitoring of overall system health, log files, disk space, internal and external message flow, secure and consistent configuration of all services, to ensure maximum service availability
  • Ongoing account management, monitoring of automated provisioning processes, removal of unused accounts
  • Ongoing monitoring of capacity, propose necessary expansion, or identify opportunity to consolidate to keep service cost at a minimum
  • Respond to system outages in a timely fashion, troubleshoot, resolve and communicate status. Escalate systems issues to senior team members, development or external vendors when necessary.
  • Maintain documentation of system configuration, policies, procedures and standards as they relate to assigned area of responsibility
  • In a timely, professional and customer oriented fashion, actively respond to incidents escalated through the TAG helpdesk system
  • Train and mentor colleagues as needed to ensure knowledge and capability is shared throughout the team
  • Provide ongoing communication and status of work assignments to management
  • Participate in on-call rotation for 24/7 support of critical services

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Novell GroupWise product, ideally good knowledge of one or more other products listed above
  • Solid Linux and Microsoft Windows server knowledge
  • Understanding of Novell Directory
  • Exposure to Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Active Directory
  • Talent to drive infrastructure projects with minimal guidance
  • Self-motivated to keep technical skills current to ensure delivery of solutions that reflect emerging or current standards
  • Detail-oriented and independent individual able to make intelligent decisions and thrive in a fast paced environment
  • Preference for teamwork, ability to engage with the global team in projects and day-to-day business to achieve a set of common goals
  • Effective and appropriate communication and interpersonal skills
  • Two year degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a similar technical field.
  • Two years experience administering messaging systems
  • Five+ years practical IT related work experience with exposure to general IT infrastructure
  • Must be willing and able to participate in an on-call rotation.
